Libby Sommer, EPA Libby Sommer is an environmental scientist with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment (DfE) Program, part of EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics. Under DfE’s Formulator Program, Libby teams with science and policy professionals who, in partnership with manufacturers, work to improve the environmental and human health profile of chemical-intensive products for industrial, institutional, and consumer applications. She acts as a bridge between the Agency’s science experts and the chemical products community, and helps to build innovative government-industry partnerships that benefit both business and the environment. The DfE program works directly with EPA’s Green Chemistry specialists to identify and recommend safer chemicals to its formulator partners. Since 1997, DfE has offered recognition to those companies who design for the environment and human health by using safer chemicals. To date, more than 300 chemical products have been recognized by the program. Among the projects Libby has contributed to are the CleanGredients database, and the related DfE Screens for Safer Ingredients. Jonathan Rice, Waterbury Companies, Inc. /TimeMist Jonathan Rice brings 16 years of experience in the Industrial and Institutional Markets. The extent of his customer responsibilities has been with Direct and In-Direct Business. Jonathan has called on multiple distribution types from Sanitary Supply, Food Service, Industrial, Med-Surge and Textile Services. During his career he has lead in sales with National Accounts, Distribution Management and Regional Management. His customers have ranged from Leisure / Hospitality, Health Care GPO Acute and Long-Term, Health Clubs, Retail and Building Services Contractors. Jonathan’s experience has been in the equipment and chemical business. He has been involved in new product development and training with many different chemical manufacturers. Jonathan currently is the Director of Sales for the Services Division of TimeMist / Waterbury Companies. He is the lead presenter for the Bio Augmentation session held at FMCE - Chicago. Kate Tomford, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn’s Office Kate Tomford is a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn. She administrates the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council, which is chaired by the Lt. Governor and tasked with improving the sustainability of state government operations and policies. Over the past year, the Council worked closely with state agencies and interested stakeholders to develop the guidelines and specifications for the Illinois Green Cleaning Schools Act. Dan Persky, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn’s Office Daniel Persky is Senior Policy Advisor and Counsel to Lt. Governor Pat Quinn. He has served with the Lt. Governor since 2003. Previously he worked on Capitol Hill and for community organizations in Chicago on policy and programs for sustainable communities. He is currently leading a $2 million grant for the development of an environmental center on Chicago's southeast side. Dan is a graduate of Oberlin College, and the University of Iowa (law school and masters in urban planning).
